Thoughts on Inventing Anna?

03/23/2022

Inventing Anna has been popular on Netflix after the Tinder Swindler, and I just had to watch the limited series myself to know what the hype was about!

That being said, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the characters. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already. It's about a girl who pretends to be an alleged heiress in order to get what she wants, but ends up deceiving a large number of people in the process (and end up in prison too). Several important life lessons can be gleaned from this film, such as the fact that not everything you read or see on social media represents who someone truly is.

So, she went to such great lengths to get what she wanted because she was desperate to build her empire, but when it came to finances, she had no money and tried to say that there was a problem with money wiring into the country and so on. A lot of people and banks were conned by her, but when things started to go awry for her, it was too late.

After she's been jailed, the movie shows that Anna's lawyer is desperate for her to win the case because he believes that Anna's friend was also using her in this "Inventing Anna" charade. Because her case was so unique, the attorney would be more likely to get more cases in the future (I think) 🤔 💭

I can't say that I'm on her side, nor would I be on the side of any of her friends or acquaintances. I don't think she was a bad person, I think Anna wanted to live the life she wanted and knew exactly how to do so, but I guess she couldn't make things work out for herself. Her friends or acquaintances / Boyfriend, I guess, were just there for the fun times, so I can't really say they were that innocent, and some appear to be seeking advantages in the moment.

What did you think of the movie Inventing Anna? A neutral stance is also an option.
